History
The engineering services company MORPHOTEC was founded in 1995 by Dr.-Ing. Stefan Henschen as a spin-off from the Institute for Mathematical Modelling in Materials Science at RWTH Aachen University. The institute was headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. J. Betten.
The Institute for Mathematical Modelling in Materials Science had strong theoretical expertise in the fields of finite element simulation, CFD simulation and material modelling. The objective of founding MORPHOTEC was to transfer this theoretical knowledge into industrial practice and to apply the latest developments in simulation technology to practical engineering problems.
This objective has been successfully achieved through the completion of more than 6,200 CAE projects (as of 2025) for well-known customers from the automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering and other industries.
Some representative projects conducted by MORPHOTEC’s engineering team are:
- Durability Analyses of combustion engines (Passenger Car, Light and Heavy Trucks) under quasi-static and dynamic loading.
- Development of rubber, plastic and composite parts using finite element stress and deformation analysis (e.g. flexible clutch disk, door seals, ventilator cowl, loudspeaker housings, plastic seats, fuselages) under consideration of different material models.
- FE-Simulation and stress analysis of the full vehicle body considering measured load spectra.
- Crash-Simulation of partial or complete vehicles according to US EU and JP Standards.
- Simulation of flow processes (Pressure lost, flow separation, near-wall heat transfer etc.) of exhaust gas systems and cooling circuits.
- Topology optimization of various components within combustion engines (main bearing cap, conrod, crank case etc.) satisfying inequality and / or equality constraints (e.g. stress limits, usable material ratio and limits for deformation).
Throughout its history, MORPHOTEC has worked with numerous established CAE systems, including NASTRAN, LS-DYNA, PAM-CRASH, OpenFOAM, MEDINA, HYPERWORKS and I-DEAS. Today, MORPHOTEC selects current CAE tools on a project-specific basis for structural mechanics, crash, CFD, MBS, optimisation and manufacturing simulation.
